Carter Federal Credit Union (Carter Federal) was named 2012 Business of the Year by the Springhill North Webster Chamber of Commerce (the Chamber) at their annual banquet on Tuesday, April 17, 2012. The banquet was held at the Springhill Civic Center and commemorated the Chamber's 58th year of serving area businesses. The Chamber's Business of the Year is selected each year through a competitive process whereby local member businesses are nominated for review by a panel judges. Criteria for winning the award included accomplishments in the areas of community and economic development, participation in local civic and business events as well as revitalization efforts in the area.
Carter Federal Credit Union is a long time active member of the Chamber, and has exemplified fair and upstanding business practices in Springhill since 1954. While the credit union has grown to eight branch locations, it maintains its center of operations in its home of Springhill.
David Scruggs, the Chamber's President recognized that in 2011 Carter Federal donated thousands of employee hours and dedicated substantial financial resources to numerous charitable and civic events. In addition, Carter Federal's commitment to revitalizing Springhill's Historic Main Street by renovating an empty building and dedicating it to serve as a community center. Local businesses, civic groups, and members of the community can meet and gather in this facility, and financial education workshops are also offered free to the public.
Chairman of the Board, Joyce Butler and President/CEO James Gibson accepted the award on behalf of the credit union.
